Orlando area sees catastrophic flooding due to Hurricane Ian

Ian came ashore Wednesday afternoon near Cayo Costa, Florida as a Category 4 storm. Ian moved through Central Florida overnight and through Thursday weakening into a tropical storm before moving offshore and regaining strength, where it got upgraded back to hurricane status as a Category 1 storm. Ian is forecast to impact the coasts of the Carolinas and Georgia over the next couple of days. During a press conference Thursday morning, Gov. Ron DeSantis noted that Central Florida is experiencing “a 500-year flood event.”
